social events at the xxxV congress

1st June 2018

Several tours were offered on the Friday. In Ottawa free tours of the Canadian Mint were offered. Many participants were working hard to get the gold bar!

Tours of the Parliament Buildings were offered as well as tourist bus tours through the city and walking tours of Ottawa's historical highlights.

A bigger bus tour was proposed, and well visited, taking the participants to the Diefenbunker, Canada's Cold War Museum.

The participants were taken several hundred meters under the ground to visit the bunker. An interesting tour which showed the different facilities and rooms.

Some even tried the Prime Minister's chair and desk!

Many were relieved to see the sunlight again.

The bus tour continued through the Ottawa Valley and brought the participants to the Mill of Kintail-home of Robert Tait McKenzie Memorial Museum.

After a very nice picnic along the water, the skies turned very dark, very quickly and some participants had to run for their lives to get in the bus. The skies opened up and the trip to the small town of Almonte was like being in a submarine. Many stayed in the bus and some very brave participants ventured out in Almonte. Once the rain subsided, the less brave participants strolled out as well.
