EYECATCHERS
at the Geldmuseum- Utrecht (The Netherlands)
On the 11 December, a brand new exhibition opened at the Geldmuseum in Utrecht. The exhibition entitled, EYECATCHERS, is a selection of 100 numismatic objects ranging from coins, bank notes, saving boxes and of course medals. The curators of this exhibition had the task to select 100 objects from the collection of 400,000 objects. How they did this selection? The objects on display were chosen on the base of their rarity, of their historical importance, of their value, of their craziness or simply because of their special significance for the curators. The objects are displayed in a very modern way, each objects being placed on something resembling a pedestal inside a showcase that feels more like a glass cube. Mirrors have been added in the showcase so that the visitors have the possibility of seeing all the sides of the objects. Enlargements and details from the objects are shown on wall in the room. All of this combined gives an extraordinary and majestic impression. A must see exhibition if you are in the Netherlands.
A catalogue with 50 of the 100 objects on display can be bought from the museum shop
